    Species Description - Plants glabrous, caespitose epiphytes. Roots numerous, slender, fasciculate. Stems numerous, composed of 3-4 internodes, unifoliate, 1-5 cm long, 1-1.5 mm diam. Leaves erect, sessile, rigid, subcoriaceous, entire, narrowly ovate-elliptic, acute, minutely dentate, 2-6 cm long, 8-19 mm wide. Inflorescences terminal, solitary, often 3-4 and fasciculate, pendent, peduncles subtended by a scarious spathe 7-8 mm long, racemes laxly 2- to 4-flowered, 2-6 cm long; floral bracts sheathing, acute, 3 mm long. Flowers reddish, membranous. Pedicellate ovary erect, 3-4 mm long. Sepals spreading; dorsal sepal linear, acute, 12-14 mm long, 1.7-2 mm wide; lateral sepals connate to near apex, synsepal 10-13 mm long, 4-5 mm wide. Petals 1-nerved, linear, oblique, long-acuminate, 5-5.5 mm long, 0.5-1.5 mm wide. Lip unguiculate, trilobed, concave, 3.5 mm long, 2.5 mm wide, lateral lobes undulate, quadrate, obtuse, midlobe broadly rounded. Column arched, 3-3.5 mm long, base slender, apical wings suborbicular, clinandrium fringed. Fruits cylindrical, ca. 13 mm long.

    10. Pleurothallis appendiculata Cogniaux in Urban, Symb. Ant. 7: 174. 1912. Type. Tuerckheim 3233, from near Constanza, 1400 m elev., Dominican Republic (not seen). Phenology & Pollination. Plants flower in late winter or early spring. Its breeding system and pollinators are unknown.
