    The genus is somewhat similar to Isopterygium but can usually be recognized by its larger size, spreading, loosely complanate leaves, and foliose pseudoparaphyllia. The costa is mdimentary or lacking, and the leaves generally have rather short apical cells; the cells may be more or less papillose at back because of projecting upper ends.

    Buck (1987b) has removed several species from Glossadelphus in the Sematophyllaceae and included them in Taxiphyllum in the Hypnaceae. These include the two species to be found under Glossadelphus in the present work.
