    Species Description - Stems up to 3 cm long, (with leaves) 1-3 mm wide, julaceous to ± flattened. Leaves lax, smooth, 1-2 mm long, 0.4-0.8 mm wide near the middle, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate; margins plane or incurved below the middle, entire or sermlate near the apex; costa extending to the leaf middle or somewhat longer; upper cells 122-165 x 7-9 µm, shorter at the apex and base, smooth; alar cells quadrate, short-rectangular, or oblate-rectangular. Setae 6-8 mm long; capsules 0.8-1 mm long, inclined to cernuous, ellipsoidal to ovoid, contracted below the mouth when dry; operculum obliquely conic to short-rostrate; exostome teeth up to 500 µm long. Spores 14—19 µm in longer diameter.

    On bark, especially at bases of trees, usually in forests at 1000 m alt. or less; Campeche, Chiapas, Jalisco, Michoacan, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosi, Sinaloa, Veracruz, Yucatan.—Mexico to northern South America and the West Indies; Florida; Africa and India.
