Species Description - Plants relatively slender to medium-sized, glossy. Stems sparsely and irregularly pinnate, up to 5 cm long, (with leaves) 3-4.5 mm wide. Leaves contorted when dry, 1.5-2.5 mm long, oblong to elliptic, obtuse to abruptly acute or acuminate; margins serrate above; costa 1/2-3/4 or more the leaf length; upper cells large (28-33 µm wide), hexagonal to oblong-hexagonal, 1-2.5:1, those at the margins linear in 3-4 rows. Dioicous. Setae 15 mm long, papillose throughout. Spores 15-22 µm, smooth. Calyptrae sparsely hairy, laciniate at base.

On wet rocks and banks at low altitudes; Oaxaca (Sierra de Juarez).—Mexico; Guatemala and Costa Rica; northern South America; Jamaica and Martinique.
