Species Description - Plants dull or glossy, green or brownish-green. Stems up to 6 cm long and (with leaves) up to 3 mm wide. Leaves erect-spreading to spreading, contorted and often appearing linear when dry, 1-2.5 mm long, oblong-lanceolate to oblongovate, abruptly acute, cuspidate-acuminate, or broadly shortacuminate; margins serrulate above, broadly bordered by 3-6 rows of cells (often by 6 rows throughout); costae strong, extending nearly to the apex, smooth at back; cells hexagonal, at the apex occasionally somewhat elongate. Inflorescences and sporophytes not seen.

On wet rocks at 1600 m alt.; Puebla (Huauchinango).-Mexico to northern South America; West Indies.
