Species Description - Caespitose or somewhat rhizomatous perennials 25-50 cm tall. Inflorescences 10-20 cm long, the rachises solitary at nodes, the axis terminating in a bristle tipped by a staminate spikelet. Pistillate spikelets 7.5-11 mm long, the glumes purple, about 1/2 as long as straight floret.
