Leaves of secondary stems 2-2.5 x 1.5 mm; margins plane, entire; costa extending above the midleaf; apical cells oblong-rhomboidal, 41-50 x 6-7 µm; upper median cells rhomboidal, 62-67 x 8-10 µm, narrowly rectangular at the margins; basal cells short-rectangular, 40-50 x 15-20 µm, dark-red to red-yellow; alar cells quadrate, 20-30 µm. Branch leaves 1.8-2 x 1-1.2 mm, concave because of broadly inflexed upper margins, flat and serrate at the tip; upper cells 35-50 x 6-8 µm, with marginal cells rectangular above the midleaf; basal cells 45-55 x 10-15 µm, alar cells 15-35 µm. Pterobryopsis pringlei Card., Rev. Bryol. 37: 8. 1910, fide Arzeni, 1954.
The plants are recognizable because of a robust, dendroid habit of growth, as well as broadly ovate, singly costate leaves with an abundance of differentiated alar cells.
