    Genus Description - Plants medium-sized to robust, in loose, glossy, dark- to yellow-green tufts. Secondary stems erect, pinnately above a stipitate base. Gemmae sometimes present. Leaves crowded, concave, broadly ovate, short-acuminate, decurrent; costa single, occasionally spurred; cells smooth, pitted; upper cells elongate; basal cells quadrate to short-rectangular; alar cells quadrate, dark-red to reddish-yellow. Perichaetial leaves slenderly acuminate from a sheathing base. Setae short; capsules usually shortly exserted, oblong-cylindric; peristome double, the exostome teeth striolate. Calyptrae cucullate.
