Species Description - Plants to 3.5 m tall, the leaves gathered in a fan-like cluster at top of a leafless, cane-like stem. Leaves: blade ovate, with apex markedly displaced, dull grayish green abaxially. Inflorescences 4-6 mm diam., clustered into a distinct, terminal synflorescence. Flowers: staminodes purplish.
Distribution and Ecology - Fl (Jan, Mar); common along streams and at edge of swamp forests, often forming extensive stands in shady secondary vegetation on moist ground.
