 Species Description - Herbs, 15-50 cm tall, often with basal runners to 50 cm long. Leaves linear, 20-40 X 2-2.5 cm, acute. Inflorescences thyrses, 5-10 cm long and wide, the branches of the inflorescence 5—12-flowered, densely hairy, the pedicels 1—3 mm long. Flowers: tepals elliptic, 6-8 mm long, glabrous, white to yellowish white, the three uppermost with yellow spot at base. Capsules green when young, maturing orange to red, and finally black, globose, 5-10 mm in diam. Seeds black. Distribution and Ecology - Fl (Feb, Apr, May); fr (Apr, May, Jul); found in non-flooded forest, especially along open trails, but also in wet places, at ca. 250 m; buzz-pollination by bees (Buchmann, 1980).
