Species Description - Plants small, twisted when dry. Leaves acute, 2.4-3 x 1-1.25 mm; margins serrate only near the apex, recurved at base; cells elongate-hexagonal, 32-50 x 17-25 µm, with evenly thickened walls, arranged in diagonal rows; border weakly differentiated, 1-2 cells thick. Sporophytes not seen in the single Mexican collection.

Distribution
On soil, sometimes in crevices of cliffs; Baja California (Sierra San Pedro Martir, Moran 15413, in part, SD).—Northwestern Mexico; western North America (Yukon Territory, British Columbia and Alberta to Colorado and westward); Arctic Archipelago of Canada; Greenland.
