    Species Description - Medium-sized, non-lustrous plants, in tufts. Stems simple or with a few, erect, slender innovations. Leaves somewhat distant, irregularly wrinkled when dry, spreading when moist, suborbicular, obtuse or rounded at the apex, narrowed and decurrent at base, scarcely bordered; margins entire, ± reflexed; costa slender, nearly percurrent; cells thin-walled, relatively small, rhomboid-hexagonal or hexagonal, larger and rectangular below. Sexuality and sporophytes unknown.

    Bryum renauldii is distinctive because of scarcely bordered, suborbicular leaves, rounded at the apex and having short cells and a slender costa ending somewhat short of the apex. Relationship to the pseudotriquetrum or cyclophyllum groups m a y be questioned.

    On wet soil on stream bank; Nayarit.—Mexico; Honduras and Costa Rica; Ecuador (type of Hygrohypnum ellipticum).
