Species Description - Rhizomes short-creeping, covered at apex with linear, brown scales 1 mm long. Fronds erect, in clumps, 2- or 3-pinnate at base; petiole 20-40 cm long, black, canaliculate, with brownish-black scales 1-3 mm long at base of petiole, with sparse, caducous pubescence towards apex; pinnae 4-7 on each side of rachis, elliptic, 12-18 X 3-4 cm, with rachis and petiole pubescent, terminal pinna present; pinnules 15-25 on each side, quadrangular, ca. 20 X 5 mm, the external and distal margins crenulate. Sori 6-8, between crenations.
Distribution and Ecology - Common, in low areas and along slopes.
