Genus Description - Plants terrestrial, sometimes epilithic. Rhizomes thick, short-creeping to erect. Fronds monomorphic in our flora, simple, often pinnatifid, or pinnate, sometimes further divided; rachis and midrib covered abaxially with short, reddish hairs; blade with reticulate veins, the pentagonal or hexagonal areoles with included veinlets. Sori orbicular; reniform or peltate; indusia often present.
