    Species Description - Plants slender to medium-sized, in loose, greenish to yellow-brown mats. Stems up to 8 cm long, without tomentum; cells of the hyaloderm collapsed. Leaves erect and twisted when dry, squarrose-recurved when moist, 2.5-3.5 mm long, keeled above, ovate-lanceolate, acute or broadly acute, with a short, sheathing base, scarcely decurrent; margins recurved in the lower 1/2-2/3, dentate in the upper 1/3; costa ending 1-3 cells below the apex to percurrent, papillose at back, reniform in section; upper cells 9-11 µm, subquadrate, with papillae simple to bifid, usually centrally grouped in a ring; inner basal cells differentiated in the lower 1/3-1/2 of the sheathing base, short-rectangular, 30-45 x 10-15 µm, scarcely papillose. Apparently dioicous. Setae about 13 mm long; capsules about 2.5 mm long, cylindric; annulus of about 4 layers of cells; operculum conic-rostrate, 0.5-0.7 mm high; peristome teeth inserted below the annulus, bifid to the base but ± anastomosed below, the divisions linear, red, essentially smooth. Spores 13-15 µm, papillose.
