Species Description - Weak perennial herb; flowering culms 25-50 cm tall, erect or decumbent at the base, sparingly branched. Leaf sheaths glabrous or hairy; ligule 0.3-0.5 mm long; blades filiform to linear, flat, 5-20 X 0.1-0.3 cm, smooth, hairy on the upper surface. Inflorescence ovate; main axis 5-10 cm long, open; primary branches 1.5-6 cm long. Spikelets solitary, ovate, 1.5-2.3 X 0.9-1.1 mm; lower glumes 1-1.3 mm long, 5-nerved; upper glumes 1.5-2.3 mm long, 7-nerved; lemma of lower floret elliptic, 7-nerved, muticous, the palea fully developed to vestigial; lemma of upper floret elliptic, indurate, smooth, yellow, 1.4-2 mm long, muticous.

Distribution
Known on St. John from a single collection of Eggers (3068) without specific locality (Hitchcock, 1936). Also on Buck Island, St. Croix, and St. Thomas; throughout the West Indies.
