Genus Description - Erect herbs or subshrubs. Leaves alternate, serrate. Flowers actinomorphic, 5-merous, bisexual, axillary; pedicels not bracteate; calyx of equal, deeply lobed sepals; corolla bell-shaped, the lobes elongate, ascending; stamens 4 or 5, the filaments of equal length, adnate to the base of corolla tube, the anthers oblong to ovoid, bilocular; ovary 2-locular with axile placentation, the style distal, elongate, exserted. Fruit a many-seeded, septicidal capsule; seeds reticulate.
