    Genus Description - Trees or rarely shrubs, unarmed, producing abundant white latex. Leaves spirally arranged, rarely opposite or whorled; stipules minute and deciduous or wanting. Flowers actinomorphic, bisexual, solitary or in axillary fascicles; calyx cup-shaped, of 2 whorls of (2-)3(-4) free or basally united sepals, the outer whorl valvate to slightly imbricate; corolla glabrous, tubular, the tube shorter than to rarely equaling or exceeding the 6(-9), usually 3-parted lobes; stamens 6(-12), in a single whorl, the filaments adnate to the top of the corolla tube, the anthers basifixed; staminodes 6(-9) or rarely absent, alternating with the stamens, 2-toothed at apex; ovary of 6- 12 locules with axile or axile-basal placentation, the style terminal, exserted. Fruit a 1- to several-seeded berry, variously shaped; seeds ellipsoid to ovoid, laterally compressed with a narrowly elongate ventral scar.
