    Species Description - Shrub or small tree 2-7 m tall; bark grayish, rough, furrowed; twigs angled, minutely papillose, becoming grayish at age. Leaf blades 2-4 x 0.8-2.5 cm, obovate to rarely elliptic, coriaceous, glabrous, the apex obtuse, the base cuneate, the margins revolute; petioles ca. 2 mm long. Flowers sessile, 2-3 in axillary racemes; the axes 2-8 mm long. Calyx green, cup-shaped, minute; corolla reddish or greenish yellow, bell-shaped, 4-5 mm long, with 4 ovate, spreading lobes, the tube with a tuft of hairs at point of attachment of anthers within; stamens 4, included or emergent, the filament adnate to corolla tube; ovary 3-5-lobed, the style included or exserted, the stigma nearly capitate. Drupe ovoid to ellipsoid, 6-8 mm long, yellow to red when mature.

    Distribution and Ecology - A rare shrub in coastal thickets. Lameshur (W513). Also on Anegada; Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Jamaica, and Hispanola.
