    Species Description - Erect shrub or subshrub to 1.5 m tall with ascending branches, stellate-tomentose throughout. Leaf blades broadly cordate to lance-ovate, 1.5-9 x 1-6.5 cm, reduced upward, soft-tomentose above and beneath, the apex acute, the base cordate, the margins serrate to near the base; petioles 2-3 cm long. Rowers and fruits axillary but usually aggregated terminally into a congested paniculate or corymbiform inflorescence. Calyx prominently 10- ribbed, 6-7 mm long, tomentose; corolla 8-11 mm long, yelloworange; styles 8-14. Fruit 6-7 mm diam., apically pubescent; mericarps 8-14, each with 2 apical retrorsely pubescent spines (variably developed, rarely suppressed).

    Occasional in moist or marshy areas. Lameshur (W677), without locality (CFM174). Also on St. Croix, St. Thomas, and Virgin Gorda; pantropical.
