Species Description - Plants up to 2.5 cm high, yellow-green. Leaves erect-spreading, 2-5 mm long; margins entire or ± serrate at the apex; costa 9/10 or more the leaf width; upper cells 19-47 x ca. 5 µm. Seta 10-20 mm long; capsules 2-2.5 mm long; operculum ca. 1.3 mm long. Spores 16-20 µm, papillose. (Sporophytes not seen in Mexican material.)

The very broad costa with green cells sandwiched between layers of hyaline cells is distinctive.
Campylopus pittieri and C. albidovirens both have median chlorocysts (as well as dorsal chlorocysts mingled with leucocysts), not always distinguishable, however, in older specimens.

On soil or soil over rock at 2100 m alt.; Veracruz, Oaxaca, and Mexico (Nevado de Toluca), also reported from Puebla (Pico de Orizaba), by Delgadillo (1984b).-Mexico; western North America (southeastern Alaska, British Columbia, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona); Europe and Asia.
