    Species Description - Decumbent herb to 40 cm tall, many-branched from a thickened base; stems obtusely 4-angled, puberulent or glabrescent, reddishtinged, swollen at nodes. Leaf blades 1.5-6 x 1-3 cm, ovate to triangular, chartaceous, sparsely pubescent on lower surface, the apex acute, the base narrowed, the margins serrate; petioles 0.5-1 cm long. Inflorescence to 20 cm long; bracts ovate, 2-2.5 mm long; calyx green, tubular, 3-3.5 mm long, densely covered with capitate-glandular hairs; corolla violet or light blue, 5-6.5 mm long, glabrous, the upper lip slightly shorter than the lower one; stamens included. Seeds 4, ellipsoid, 1.7-2 mm long, light brown, smooth.

    Uncommon herb, found in open, moist areas. Bordeaux area (4059), along road to Peter Peak (A4108). Also on St. Croix, St. Thomas, and Tortola; widespread throughout the tropics.
