Species Description - Erect herb or subshrub to 2 m tall; stem 4-angled, hollow, sparsely pubescent. Leaf blades 3-12 x 2-6 cm, ovate or lanceolate, chartaceous, sparsely pubescent, with numerous glandular dots, the apex acute, the base tapering or cuneate, the margins deeply and irregularly serrate; petioles 1-3 cm long. Flowers sessile, in axillary, peduncled heads, the heads 1.5-3 cm diam.; peduncle 1-3.5 cm long; bracts oblong-lanceolate, truncate at apex; calyx tubular, 6-8 mm long, sparsely pubescent, the lobes bristle-like, 1.5-2 mm long; corolla white, 3-5 mm long, pubescent at apex; stamens slightly exserted. Nutlets 4, ca. 1.5 mm long, angular-ellipsoid, light brown, smooth.

Distribution
A common roadside weed. Bethany (B261). Also on St. Croix, St. Thomas, and Tortola; apparently native to tropical America, established in the Old World tropics.
