    Genus Description - Trees, shrubs, or lianas; stems smooth or with prickles. Leaves twice-pinnate; pinnae opposite, the leaflets usually small, numerous, opposite; petioles and rachis usually with nectariferous glands; stipules usually spinelike, persistent. Flowers bisexual, in globose heads, cylindrical spikes, or short racemes, the bracts usually small; calyx bell-shaped, of 5 united or distinct sepals; corolla yellow or white, tubular, 4-5-lobed; stamens numerous, exserted, the filaments free or united at base; ovary sessile or stipitate, with several ovules, the styles filiform, curved, pubescent on distal portion. Legume linear to linear-oblong, straight to curved, compressed to almost cylindrical, dehiscent or indehiscent; seeds variously shaped, most often compressed.
