    Genus Description - Erect herbs or twining vines. Leaves trifoliolate; leaf rachis more or less elongate; stipules striate, persistent; stipels medium-sized, clustered at swollen nodes in axillary pseudoracemes, the bracts minute, persistent; calyx nearly bell-shaped, 2-lipped, with 5 unequal, minute teeth at apex; corolla white, pink, red, purple, or yellow, the standard nearly rounded, short-clawed, reflexed, the keel spirally twisted, narrow; stamens 10, diadelphous, the anthers alternately basifixed and versatile; ovary subsessile, linear, with 1 to several ovules, the style curved, introrsely bearded, the stigma flattened. Legume linear to oblong, straight, dehiscent; seeds bean-shaped.
