    Species Description - Subwoody twining vine to 5 m long, producing watery sap; stems cylindrical, slender, glabrous. Leaf blades 4-13 x 4.5-11 cm, chartaceous, ovate to deeply repand 3-5-lobed, glabrous, minutely dotted, the lobes acuminate at apex, the base cordate or sagittate; petioles slender, 4.5-9 cm long. Flowers in long, dichasial cymes with long, lateral 1-sided racemes. Calyx light green, 5-8 mm long, the sepals lanceolate, rounded at base, with a long, awl-shaped appendage; corolla salverform, scarlet to orange-red, 4-4.5 cm long, thin, with 5 obtuse lobes, the limb 2.5 cm diam.; stamens and pistil white or pinkish-tinged, exserted. Capsule thinwalled, globose, light brown, ca. 8 mm diam. Seeds light brown, 5 mm long, pubescent.

    Uncommon in disturbed open areas. Cruz Bay (A2347, A3082), Enighed (A3101). Also on St. Croix and St. Thomas; throughout the West Indies, Central and South America, introduced into the Old World tropics.
