Species Description - Liana to 15 m long; stem 4-angular, 4-sulcate, reaching 6 cm diam., cross section with 4 marginal dark phloem arms. Leaves drying reddish, 2-3-foliolate with terminal leaflet replaced by a long, unbranched, filiform coiling tendril, the tendril early deciduous; lateral leaflets 3.4-11 x 1.5-5 cm, ovate, chartaceous, glabrous or with scattered hairs, midvein prominent on lower surface, the apex acuminate or acute, the base truncate, rounded to nearly cordate, the margins entire; petioles and petiolules cylindrical, drying blackish, the petiolules 0.3-4.5 cm long, the petiole 1.5-7 cm long. Flowers fragrant, produced in terminal panicles. Calyx 3-5 mm long, puberulous, truncate, or minutely denticulate at apex; corolla zygomorphic, violet, 1.5-3 cm long, funnelshaped, the lobes rounded; stamens and staminodes included, inserted near the base of corolla; ovary cylindrical, with minute scales. Fruit 12-233 cm long, linear to narrowly elliptic, smooth, glabrous, semi woody, acute or obtuse at both ends. Seeds numerous, 7-9 mm long.
