    Species Description - Erect subshrub to shrub 1-2 m tall; stems densely pubescent. Leaf blades 1.5-7 x 0.7-2.5 cm, elliptic to ovate, chartaceous, the upper surface puberulent to weakly so, glandular, the lower surface pubescent to puberulent, glandular, the apex rounded, obtuse, or less commonly acute, the margins entire; petioles 2-7 mm long, pubescent. Inflorescence often condensed, 4-10-headed, main axis < 4 cm long. Heads 10-20-flowered, 6-8 mm tall; involucre 4-5.5 x 3.5-5 mm, ca. 4-seriate; involucral bracts densely pubescent to weakly so, sometimes glandular, the outer ones shortly deltoid to triangular, with narrowly acute apices, the inner ones 4-5 x 1 mm, lanceolate; receptacle dome-shaped, 1.5-2 mm broad; corollas 5-6 mm long, lavender or violet, the lobes nearly half the length of entire corolla, commonly glandular at tips when young, glabrous when mature. Achenes 2-2.5 mm long; pappus cream-colored, the outer series ca. 0.7 mm long, the inner series 4-4.5 mm long.

    Common in disturbed areas and moist upland forests. Maria Bluff (A3148), Annaberg Ruins (A1930), Center Line Road, km 4.5 (A2910). Also on St. Croix, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Virgin Gorda; Puerto Rico, Lesser Antilles.
