Discussion
Type. Jamaica. Swartz s.n. (S; isotype B-Willd. 19437!). A. R. Smith (1971) treats this as a flattened form of P. nudum, believing typical P. complanatum may be confined to the Pacific basin, but Oaxacan material does not appear different from P. complanatum of Hawaii or Jamaica. It is best to keep it separate, distinguished by flattened aerial stems, until more detailed work is done on the genus.
