    Species Description - Rhizome creeping, 1.5-2 mm diam.; rhizome scales dimorphic, along rhizome 0.5-1 mm long, linear-lanceolate, center black with occluded cells, margin pale, narrow, fimbriate-serrulate, comose, at stipe base 2-2.5 mm long, slender with long fimbriate hairlike teeth, center portion dark; fronds monomorphic, distant; stipe 1/8-1/6 the frond length, atropurpureous, with black-centered, linear-lanceolate scales with sharply serrulate margin; blade simple, linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, (12-) 14-30(-35) cm long, 7-25 mm wide; rachis black with scattered bicolorous scales, black-centered, 1-2 mm long, especially dense near rachis base; abaxial scales abundant to dense, hyaline with centers red-orange, fimbriate-ciliate, mostly ovate-lanceolate, 1 mm long, 0.3-0.5 mm wide; sori slightly oblong, soral scales mostly ovate- lanceolate, similar to laminar scales, 0.5-1.0 mm long, center brown to pale brown, margin fimbriate.

    Polypodium conzattii Weatherby, Contr. Gray Herb. 65: 11. 1922. Type. Mexico. Oaxaca: Cerro San Felipe, 3000 m, 7 & 8 Apr 1898, Conzatti 678 (GH!). Pleopeltis conzattii is distinguished by its lanceolate, fimbriate-margined blade scales and black-centered costal scales.

    Epiphytic in pine-oak woods; Centro, Coixtlahuaca, Cuicatlán, Ixtlán, Pochutla, Sola de Vega, Teotitlán, Tlaxiaco; 1900-3000 m. Mexico (Gro, Oax).
