Species Description - Stem globose-bulbous, non-proliferous, 3-10 mm diam.; fronds 1-3 per stem, 2-4 cm long, common stalk 0.3-3.0 cm long; sterile blade 0.84 cm long, 0.8-2 cm wide, ovate, base cordate, abruptly contracted, apex pointed to rounded; venation reticulate, not easily visible because of thick texture of blade; sporophore 1-9 cm long; fertile spike 3-10 mm long.

Type. United States. Carolina, Walter s.n. (BM?). Ophioglossum crotalophoroides is distinct in its globose-bulbous rhizome.
