    Species Description - Rhizome erect or curved-ascending, 5-8 mm thick (excluding stipe bases), bearing at apex a tuft of brown, narrowly lance-attenuate scales up to 7 mm long. Fronds few, stifliiy spreading, not dimorphic, 25-70 cm long; stipes somewhat shorter than the blades, brown-scaly toward base. Blades oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 5-15 cm broad, acuminate at the pinnatifid apex; pinnae mostly 8-20 pairs, subopposite to altemate, oblique-spreading, more or less oblong or oblong- linear from a strongly inequilateral base, most pinnae with a single basal acroscopic lobe or pinnule; occasionally a much smaller basiscopic lobe is also present but at a much wider angle to the rhachis; veins oblique, 1- to 3-forked, with ultimate veinlets ending in marginal cartilaginous teeth. Sori oblique, slightly curved, often paired, and 3-5 mm long or more; indusium firm but translucent, brown with paler, slightly inegular margin.

    Distribution and Ecology - General Distribution. Greater Antilles and Guadeloupe. Distribution in Puerto Rico. Very widespread in suitable habitats, but under-represented in collections; recorded from Adjuntas, Camuy, Cayey, Florida, Guayanilla, Hatillo, Orocovis, Quebradillas, Rio Grande, San Sebastian, and Utuado. Habitat. Rocky banks and forested slopes at lower middle to high elevations (180-1070 m), frequent or common.
