Description - Plant flowering 1-2 m high. Leaves to 1 m long, stout, rigid; sheaths reniform, 13 cm wide, castaneous; blades 8 cm wide, white-lepidote on both sides when young. Scape elongate; scape-bracts foliaceous. Inflorescence large, laxly paniculate, glabrous; branches spreading, slender, laxly flowered. Floral bracts broadly ovate, apiculate, not over 2 mm long; flowers usually spreading; pedicels short but distinct. Sepals oblong, asymmetric, obliquely truncate, 11-14 mm long, 4-5 mm wide; petals 25-38 mm long, ligulate, yellow, orange or red when living, greenish in drying; stamens about equaling the petals.

Saxicolous, southeastern Bolivia, southwestern Brazil and Paraguay.
