    Species Description - Caudex erect, to 1.3 m tall and 5.1 cm in diam. Fronds 0.5-1.6 cm long; stipes purplish-brown, 1.3-3.5 cm long, the base with deciduous, golden- brown, concolorous to occasionally lightermargined, lanceolate scales each with one apical seta. Blades pinnate-pinnatifid, 16-43 cm broad, the apex gradually tapering and acuminate; rhachis purplish-brown, deciduously pubemlous abaxially; pinnae sessile or nearly so, widest at base, gradually tapering to apex, 8-20 cm long, 1.3-3 cm broad, rather widely spaced, the lower most much reduced and subaphlebioid; costae with bicolorous lanceolate scales on abaxial side ultimate segments 22-27 pairs, oblong, 10-17 cm long, 2,5-5 mm wide, the margins becoming crenulate to senate at apex, the basal ones slightly larger and more dissected, partly overlapping the rhachis; ultimate costules with a few small tan buUate scales on abaxial side; ultimate veins 7-9 pairs. Indusium glabrous.

    Distribution and Ecology - General Distribution. Endemic to Puerto Rico. Distribution in Puerto Rico. Known only from the Cordillera Central, essentially from two localities only: Monte Jayuya and Monte Guilarte. Recorded from Adjuntas and Jayuya. It has never been recollected at the type locality. Habitat. Wet montane forest slopes in deep shade at high elevations (1000-1300 m), locally frequent.
