Species Description - Blades lanceolate to oblong, 3–4-pinnate, proximal pinnae 1/4–1/3 the blade length; abaxially covered by white (rarely pale yellow) farina; n=2n=81, apogamous (USA).

There are some specimens in Chihuahua that are intermediate between the two subspecies.

Rocky cliffs and slopes, usually calcareous; 1500–2800 m. USA (Ariz, N Mex, Tex); Mexico.
