    Species Description - Velutinous or puberulent shrub or tree. Leafstalk 5-10 cm, petiole equaling or longer than rachis, a globose or pointed gland between lower or both leaflet pairs; leaflets 2 pairs, petioluled, slightly to strongly asymmetric-lanceolate to elliptic-oblanceolate, terminal large, 7-14 cm, 2-3.5 r, lighter below and puberulent to soft-velutinous. Stipules not seen. Flowers in large terminal panicles grading below into axillary racemes; inflorescence branches often subtended by long (to 1 cm) stalked glands. Pedicels solitary or subumbellately clustered at axis tips, 2-3 cm; sepals strigose, unequal, the longer ca 5 mm; corolla 4-5.5 cm diam, petals faintly strigose along nerves; functional stamens 7, all with brief filaments, unequal but lower only slightly larger; pistil tomentose. Legume indehiscent, stipitate, elongate, cylindric, straight to somewhat sinuous, 1.5-2.5 dm long, ca 1 cm diam, cross-rugulose, black. Seeds many.
