Species Description - Tree, to 30 m tall. Leafy twigs 1.5-4 mm thick, sparsely to densely brownish-puberulous to hirtellous, some of the hairs uncinate. Lamina elliptic to oblong, 7-25 × 3-13 cm, broadest at or above the middle, ± inequilateral, subcoriaceous; apex acuminate to subcaudate; base acute to obtuse to subcordate; margin (often ± irregularly) dentate; upper surface glabrous; lower surface sparsely whitish-puberulous to hirtellous to brownish-strigose on the veins, some of the hairs uncinate; venation plane above, even the smaller veins prominent beneath; lateral veins 8-14 pairs; tertiary venation partly scalariform; petiole 0.3-0.7 cm long, 1-2 mm thick, puberulous to hirtellous, some of the hairs uncinate; stipules 0.3-1 cm long, appressed-puberulous, caducous or subpersistent. Staminate inflorescences: peduncle 0.3-0.4 cm long, 1-1.5 mm thick, brown-puberulous; spike 7-15 cm long, ca. 2-3 mm diam.; tepals free, 2-4, (sub)spathulate, ca. 0.5 mm long, often ± cucullate, with 2 (or 3) embedded yellow dye-containing "glands," ciliolate; filaments 0.1-0.2 mm long; anthers ca. 0.5 × 0.3-0.4 mm, the connective narrow; bracts lacking (?). Pistillate inflorescences: peduncle 0.5-1 cm long, ca. 2 mm thick, puberulous; head 1.5-2 cm diam.; perianth ca. 5 mm long, subentire to 4-lobed, the lobes decussate, the inner ones plane, the outer ones conduplicate, upper part of the perianth thickened, with numerous, small, embedded yellow dye-containing "glands," the apex brown puberulous to hirtellous outside, the upper part with dense stiff brown hairs inside, the lower part with sparse brown hairs outside; ovary glabrous; style ca. 1 mm long; stigmas subulate, 3-4 mm long; bracts lacking (?). Infructescences 4-5.5 cm diam., greenish at maturity; fruiting perianth ca. 1.5-2 cm long, tuberculate at the apex; pericarp without accumulation of yellow dye; endocarp crustaceous; seed ca. 1.2-1.5 × 1 cm; hilum large.
