Description - Plant stemless, flowering 6-8 dm high. Leaves 28-65 cm long; sheaths broadly elliptic but scarcely wider than the blades, 6 cm long, densely vestite with brown-centered scales; blades narrowly subtriangular, attenuate, 3 cm wide, obscurely brown-punctulate on both sides. Scape slightly curved, 8 mm in diameter; scape-bracts strict, densely imbricate, the lowest subfoliaceous, the highest elliptic, apiculate. Inflorescence simple, 16-flowered, oblong, 20 cm long, 5 cm wide, strongly complanate; rhachis geniculate, excavated, sparsely dark-punctulate. Floral bracts suberect, about three times as long as the internodes but not concealing the rhachis, ovate, acute, to 5 cm long, distinctly exceeding the sepals, ecarinate, subchartaceous and sulcate when dry, sparsely and obscurely dark-punctulate; flowers not secund at anthesis; pedicels stoutly obconic, 5 mm long. Sepals lanceolate, obtuse, 30 mm long, 10 mm wide, ecarinate, subchartaceous, densely brown-lepidote; petals ca 4 cm long, white, bearing 2 acute scales at base.
