Species Description - Shrub or small tree; young shoots tomentose with crisped, golden brown or ferruginous hairs, becoming glabrous, greyish, with numerous brown elongate lenticels. Leaves spaced, alternate and distichous or spirally arranged, 3.5-6 × 1-2.1 cm, elliptic or lanceolate, apex acute, base rounded, chartaceous to thinly coriaceous, upper surface usually glabrous, lower surface with residual crisped pubescence along the midrib and at the base of the lamina, venation craspedodromous or brochidodromous, marginal vein strong, submarginal vein present, very close to or fusing with the marginal vein, midrib slightly raised on the upper surface, secondary and tertiary veins appearing finely striate to the naked eye, but with a lens the parallel intersecondaries and tertiaries can be distinguished from the slightly stronger secondaries. Petiole 1.5-2.5 mm long, channelled, shortly tomentose. Fascicles axillary, 5-10-flowered. Pedicel 1.5-3 mm long, shortly tomentose. Flowers bisexual (?). Sepals (four-)five, ca. 2 mm long, ovate apex acute to obtuse, pubescent outside, glabrous within. Corolla ca. 3 mm long, shortly tubular, tube ca. 1.75 mm long, lobes (four-)five, ca. 1.25 mm long, ovate, apex rounded, glabrous. Stamens (four)five, fixed near the apex of the tube, but with long traces, filaments ca. 0.5 mm long, glabrous; anthers ca. 0.5 mm long, suborbicular, glabrous. Staminodes (four)five, ca. 0.75 mm long, lanceolate, glabrous. Disk absent. Ovary ovoid, five-locular, densely pubescent; style ca. 1 mm long after anthesis, included, glabrous. Fruit 1.2-1.5 cm long, ellipsoid, apex and base rounded, smooth, glabrous. Seed solitary, 0.9-1.4 cm long, laterally compressed, testa finely transversely wrinkled, shining, 0.5-1 mm thick; scar adaxial, sometimes extending round the base of the seed, 1.5-2 mm wide. Field characters. Shrub or small tree to 6 m high, with white latex. Flowers pale green or cream-coloured. Flowering Sep to Feb and Jun, fruit Oct to Apr.
