Description
Solitary palm; stem to 5m tall, dbh 20cm, decreasing to 12cm near the crown. Leaf scars close, rather irregular. Crown with c. 12-15 green leaves; leaves marscecent, forming an untidy shuttlecock. Leaf to 4.5m long; sheath fibrous; petiole 1m, deeply channeled, with sharp margins, densely covered with redish brown scales; leaflets ca. 45 on each side of the rachis, large, bright green below, dark green above, plicate. Inflorescence enclosed in a large cirumscissile peduncular bract, covered in brown indumentum; prophyll 60cm, green, peduncular bract long exserted. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
