Habitat
Grows at edge of forest and roadsides and tangled edges so often cut off and hard to tell what the real growth form is. Cloud forest. With Brunellia, Weinmannia, tree ferns and bamboo.

Description
Shrubs with long slender erect or sometimes arching branches, to 5 m. tall; all spines slender and straight and perpendicular, from lowest stems to ultimate branches. Base of trunk to at least 6 cm. in diameter, but most stems, even the tallest a maximum of 3 cm. in diameter. Leaves green above, whitened beneath. Flowers few; corolla violet; anthers yellow. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fertile.
