Grindelia acutifolia Steyerm. CO. Las Animas Co.: along Interstate 25, at scenic overlook just down from Raton Pass, 0.9 mi N of CO-NM state line, this at mile marker 1. Plants common along edge and sides of an embankment in rocky, sandy soil. 2.2-3.5 ft. tall. Most plants with multiple stems from the base, each plant forming a small clump of its own. Perennials. In full flower, not many buds available. Stems purplish. Growing with various weeds. Also growing intermixed and apparently hybridizing (Wetter 916) with of the discoid G. aphanactis Rydb. (Wetter 915). Wetter 917 is the predominant taxon at this location. T35S, R36W, S8 or 17 Elev. 7400-7600 ft. Mark Allen Wetter 917 18 Aug 1986 Univ. of Wisconsin Herbarium (WIS).
