Small tree 10ft tall, trunk diameter 3in, occasional, fallen acorns rare. Growing in gravelly/rocky loam over serpentine bedrock (Eightlar-Dubakella complex, 35 to 65 percent south slopes; Clayey-skeletal, magnésie, mesic Typic Dystroxerepts to Mollic Haploxeralfs). In a scrubby, open woodland on a south-facing slope, with Achnatherum lemmonii, Aira caryophyllea, Amelanchier sp., Arctostaphylos patula, Bromus carina tus, Calocedrus decurrens, Ceanothus cuneatus, C. pusillus, Comandra umbel lata, Danthonia californica, Dichelostemma multiflorum, Hastingsia serpenticola, Hieracium sp., Horkelia sericata, Iris sp., Lonicera sp., Luzlula sp., Navarretia sp. (?), Penstemon sp. (small blue flowers), Pinus jeffreyi, Polygala californica, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Quercus garryana var. breweri * Q. sadleriana, Rhamnus californica (?) & Viola sp. Along an abandoned roadbed or artificial ditch, to the S. side of Eight Dollar Mountain Road, about 1 .Omi W. of the intersection with Rt. 199. Josephine Co. Elev. about 1360ft. 42° 13' 55.3"N, 123° 39’ 40.4"W. UTM 10 445439E, 4675750N (NAD83/WGS84).
