  • Description

    Pileus 7-17 cm broad, obtusely conic when young, convex umbonate to plano umbonate with age, dry, glabrous, striate/sulcate at margin, yellowish brown (5D-E8), sometimes slightly darker (5F8) with virgate fibrils, occasionally darker at the margin (5F8) and paler toward disc, fading with age but remaining raw umber (5F8) on the disc and becoming grayish orange (5B4) toward the margin. Flesh up to 1 cm thick, white to pale yellow, with mild odor, not tasted. Lamellae free, crowded, white, 1.5 cm broad, with even edges and truncate lamellulae. Stipe 12-35 cm long, 1-2 cm broad, ±equal, dry, pale yellow with remnant of partial veil forming appressed sordid dark yellow squamules. Partial veil collapsing on stipe and becoming pale gray, sordid yellow above toward stipe apex, white on underside of annulus; interior white slowly pale yellow in the cortex, pithy, becoming hollow. Volva white, thick and membranous.
