Species Description - Stoloniferous perennial; culms slender, erect, 15-70 cm. tall, glabrous; sheaths from sparsely to densely hispid, especially toward the summit, the margins ciliate, the lower ones crowded, the upper ones elongate, usually shorter than the internodes; ligule ciliate, about 0.2 mm. long; blades thick, firm, flat, 4-8 cm. long, 3-5 mm. wide, densely hispid on both surfaces, the uppermost and often those on the stolons very much reduced; raceme 4-10 cm. long; spikelets 2.8-3.8 mm. long, appressed; first glurne 2-3 mm. long, 1- or faintly 3-nerved, the tip notched, the keel ciliate on the lower third, the hairs sometimes rather sparse, minutely pubescent or scabrous above; second glume 1.7-2.7 mm. long, 3-nerved, the margins short-ciliate; sterile lemma 3-3.5 mm. long, 3- or faintly 5-nerved, the margins ciliate from the base to the apex, the hairs near the summit somewhat longer than the others; fruit 2.4-3 mm. long (rarely to 3.5 mm.), acute, minutely striate.
