Species Description - Large caespitose epiphytes with compressed pseudobulbs to 7 cm long, the pseudobulbs subtended by 3 pairs of foliaceous bracts. Leaves 1 per pseudobulb, grading into foliaceous bracts, oblong-ligulate, obliquely 2-lobed, green, to 30 X 3 cm. Inflorescences short solitary flowers on scapes from axils of foliaceous bracts. Flowers translucent, yellow, the lip with subapical patch of white mealy trichomes, the column yellowish green; sepals lanceolate, subacute, 1.5 X 0.6 cm, the dorsal sepal concave, the lateral sepals divergent; petals oblanceolate, subacute, parallel to column, 1.3 X 0.4 cm; lip 3-lobed, 1.25 X 0.8 cm when spread, the callus central and with a subapical mealy patch; column slightly curved, 8 mm long.

Discussion
Fl (Jan). This species has been confused with M. discolor (Lindley) Reichenbach f., which differs by its wider, purple-suffused leaves.
