Species Description - Appressed hemiepiphytic climbers. Stems to ca. 1 m long, the internodes shorter than broad, to 5 cm diam., with weak, mostly transverse fissures, turning yellow-brown; cataphylls sharply D-shaped in transverse section at least near apex, otherwise unribbed, 6-20 cm long, deciduous. Leaves with erectspreading petioles and pendent blades; petiole 25-57 cm long, obtusely flattened adaxially, pale yellow-orange to greenish yellow; blade somewhat triangular-ovate, 30-84 x 8.1-21 cm, cordate at base with the posterior rib barely naked or sometimes naked to 2.5 cm; primary lateral veins 3-5 per side. Inflorescences 2 or 3 per axil, the peduncle 9-27 cm long; spathe 17.5-18.5 cm long, green to yellow-green abaxially, the blade white adaxially, the tube dark red adaxially, becoming dark maroon-purple to red-violet after anthesis; spadix 16.5-18 cm long, the pistillate portion pale yellowgreen, to 7.2 cm long. Fl (Feb, Oct), immature fr (Feb) in French Guiana. This species can be confused with P grandifolium from which it is distinguished by its proportionately narrower blade and yellowish petiole which dries yellowbrown and finely ridged.
