Species Description - Erect herb to 50 cm tall; main stem obtusely 4-angled, puberulent, with numerous axillary branches. Leaf blades 4-12 x 5-15 cm, deeply 3-5-lobed, chartaceous, becoming glabrous, the lobes deeply incised or lobed, puberulent along lower veins, the apex acute, the base narrowed, the margins ciliate; petioles 2.5-10 cm long. Flower glomerules 1.5-2 cm wide, in leaf axils; bracts 2-3 mm long, awl-shaped; calyx green, bell-shaped, 4.5-8.5 mm long, puberulent, the lobes spine-tipped; corolla deeply bilabiate, lavender, 1.1-1.2 cm long, pubescent, the upper lip slightly longer than the lower one; stamens slightly shorter than the upper lip, the anthers violet. Seeds 4, 2.5 mm long, 3-angled, wedge-shaped, light brown, smooth.

Distribution
A fairly common weed of disturbed, open, moist ground. Carolina (A2584). Also on St. Croix, St. Thomas, and Tortola; native to Asia but widespread from tropical to subtemperate America.
