Genus Description - Herbaceous climbing or trailing, twining vines. Leaves trifoliolate; stipules variously shaped, persistent; stipels subulate. Flowers small to medium, in axillary or terminal pseudoracemes, the bracts small; calyx nearly bell-shaped, 5-lobed, 2-lipped, with 2 upper lobes almost completely fused; corolla yellow or blue, the standard rounded, the wings spurred, as long as the keel, clawed, the keel recurved, truncate; stamens 10, diadelphous, the anthers of equal size; ovary sessile, with several ovules, the style curved, pubescent on distal portion, the stigma lateral. Legume linear to oblong, compressed to almost cylindrical, dehiscent by twisting valves; seeds compressed, square to kidney-shaped.
Distribution and Ecology - A genus of 100 species, mostly from tropical Africa and Asia.
