Genus Description - Terrestrial ferns with scandent and rather rampant fronds of indefinite growth. Rhizomes slender, wide-creeping, densely clothed with narrow, almost hairlike scales. Fronds 2- to 4-pinnate; pinnae opposite; ultimate pinnules small and variously lobed or cleft; stipe and rachis subwoody, slender and flexuous, and usually spiny. Sori terminal on single veins, immersed in tissue; indusium joined to the opposed frond lobule to form an urn-shaped involucre, opening outward at margin; spores usually spherical, trilete, the surface smooth or slightly granulate.
